Flipboard curators have seen over 100,000 boosts, likes, replies and follows from people across the fediverse since in-app notifications went live on April 11. Over the past few weeks people on federated services like Mastodon have been able to interact with posts by any of the 450 previously federated Flipboard profiles and their Magazines. Flipboard curators have been able to see fediverse reactions, as well as reply back to people, right from the notifications panel in the Flipboard app.

With the ability to see social activity from the fediverse in Flipboard, curators have an easy way to interact with people and see conversations happening around their posts, regardless of the network they are using. And soon they will also be able to follow people in the fediverse from Flipboard.

Here’s an example of what notifications on Flipboard look like when they are blended with activity from the fediverse. Flipboard user actions are noted with a red icon on the avatar and fediverse engagement (from services like Mastodon) is noted by a black and white fediverse ecosystem icon:

With increasing interest from the community, Flipoboard is federating another 100 curators today. This next group of federated profiles and Magazines will include collections on topics like history, climate, culture, space and education. In total, more than 2,500 Flipboard Magazines will be federated today and open to the fediverse. Any activity around posts in those Magazines will be reflected in the curator’s notifications so they can interact and reply to people directly.

To help people discover the Flipboard Magazines they’re interested in, we’re launching a new Mastodon account called Flipboard Magazine Community where we’ll do round-ups and feature timely, topical collections of Magazines to follow. If you’re still curious and want to find more Flipboard profiles, Magazines and their posts, search “flipboard.com” in the Mastodon search field.

Below is a handful of the Magazines that were federated today.

Over the coming weeks Flipboard will continue to open its platform to federated communities and deepen its fediverse integration.
